I am thinking it would be nice to periodically have a travel log area. Now I'm not just thinking of tourista things but taking a look at the different sides of an area. We could each submit as we go to different places. However we would have to be able to take a walk to the less trafficed areas. For example we go to the ocean, let's visit with the fishermen, not just eat their fish. Or we go to an area where there is rich native american culture, let's go to the Res. Let's see where the service workers of our favorite vacations live (see nearest trailer park) get my drift? Not necessarily the underbelly, although that is always interesting, but the overlooked.

The subversive side to traveling. The sun doesn't just rise within exotic places. It sets too. It would work.

Grainne, i like that idea in a number of ways. A lot of people are going to be scratching their Princess Tours styled vacations, although there will probably still be a certain amount of traveling. Articles on "humble traveling" would not only help readers to find cheaper ways of enjoying thier recreational time, it would put us in touch with the grass roots of American life. I also think there is something far livelier and more interesting about walking away from the media expressed ideology of a perfect vacation.
I can also see a travel page as a possible angle for attracting future advertising in such things as camping and travel gear, motorcycles (cheap gas milage) little known get-away spots with inexpensive rates, bus lines (are the white rabbit styled tours still around?) nature conservatories, ferries (still fairly inexpensive and a wonderful experience), canoes, kyaks, life jackets, cameras and even cyber cafes so you can write your experiences quickly while they are fresh in your mind.
