Hello.
Call me Aramink.
That's not my name, but it is my not-so-secret nom de plume. Or call me Anne. That is my name. Some of the Subversify writers and members, most notably Messrs. Noble and Feud, know me from another forum or two. I've had a blog on Wordpress for about three or four years where I post book reviews, political rants, short fiction, essays, ridiculous things about myself (such as my tragic inability to shave my legs properly), and other ephemerae.
I'm a 47 year old partner in a small law firm in the capital city of a hot and humid Southern State smack dab on the most conservative and fundamentalist buckle of the Bible belt, which can be really frustrating for a freethinking, independent woman. I grew up in a tiny farming community in the Mississippi Delta, but somehow managed to escape it. I know lots of rednecks and trailer trash and can relate to them like they are old friends (some of them are old friends), but I'm one of those unusual ones among my peers who went up east to school and uses big words when she speaks. I'm not showing off so much as I'm exercising the vocabulary learned eons ago while studying for the college boards. OK. Fine. So I'm showing off. I'll try not to make a big deal out of it. As if one can show off without making a big deal out of it.
Other things about me: I write a lot, both for work and for pleasure. I read a lot for the same reasons. My only child is about to graduate from high school, after which I will probably become like any other crazy cat lady. Sometimes I'm iconoclastic and irreverent when I ought to be serious. I can do almost anything I try with the exception of playing a musical instrument or drawing anything that can be recognized for what I intend it to be. I'm Irish-Italian. I'm also English, German, Welsh and Scottish. That means I'm a typically mongrel American. I'm irreligious, a history buff, a paleontology freak, a science fiction geek. I'm opinionated. I serve on the national and state boards of a 100+ year old historical society. I'm active in local and state bar associations.
I'm also extremely shy - but only in real life. On the computer I can't seem to keep my mouth (keyboard?) shut.
