Hello everyone! My name is Sparky. I can’t say I’m a very good writer, but I am always interested in good writing and out-of-the-box thinkers. I feel like our society has a way of compartmentalizing people, places, things, and even ideas to a tragic extreme. I also feel that our society is greatly handicapped by this propensity to cookie cut and label everything and everyone. I’m not anti-social nor do I lean towards anarchy by any means… I just think we DO NOT have everything figured out, we make the same mistakes over and over, and it’s time for some fresh ideas to be acknowledged.
I sell parts for earthmoving equipment, industrial engines, and other big machinery. I settled on this as a way to make ends meet after failing to make a career in music. I still love music and making music but this has become more of a passion and hobby than a viable way to pay the bills. I’m a vegetarian but not the preachy type. I love to cook. I am into health, fitness, and nutrition as a whole… I don’t do everything right but I try to live healthy and enjoy spending time in the gym when I can. I care for the environment and feel like everyone can do a much better job of reducing our impact on the planet and the over-consumption of resources. I believe in community service but I dislike greed and laziness. I am non-religious. I am agnostic and philosophical but will admit that I have no idea whether a higher power exists. Karma does seem evident and plausible, at least in my reality. I’m open-minded enough that I accept people from all different backgrounds, lifestyles, religions, and political leanings. I’m usually full of jokes, positive, and fun to be around. If you want to know anything about me, feel free to ask! ;D

Hallo Sparky. Thanks for introducing yourself. I happen to be an omnivore, but not the preachy sort either. Actually I like vegitarian meals and cooking quite a bit too.
I am wondering what sorts of music you took a stab at making a living with. What do you play? Do you write music? And yes, just like writing it's hard to pay the bills with music. I do know quite a few people who make a living selling tractors and such being in a breadbasket area. It takes a gift of gab so I'm guessing you must have some of that.
Glad to have you aboard. It'll be good taking some time to get to know you, and vice versa.

Glad to have you here Sparky. Subversify is one part writing, and one part reading & socializing. So just relax and be yourself.
I've known Sparky for a while, and am glad to have such a smart ass joining in the conversation.
We kind of hope more people get off the humdrum of Facebook and come visit us at the forum where we can actually have conversations more than just 150-400 characters!

Hi Sparky. Your introduction sounds like you're right in step with the rest of us around here. We don't just get out of the box. We kick it around and tear it up a little. We eat pieces of the box for fiber. We have agnostics, atheists, Christians, spirit chasers, you name it. They all come knocking around at least once in awhile to state their opinions. We are the ones who like diversity in our flower gardens.
You articulate yourself well. Are you sure you don't write? You seem to have a great many subjects you could discuss; healthy diet (i'm a meat eater, but i mainly eat fish and wild game; you'll never guilt trip the salmon out of an Alaskan!) community service, environmental conservation, music.
At any rate, welcome to our forum! I should call it our hatchery since we sometimes do a lot of brooding before we hatch our eggs.

@ grainerhuad
When it comes to a person’s diet, I never did exactly understand why people give a furry rat’s ass what anyone else eats!?! My girlfriend is a die-hard meat eater but eats about 80% vegetarian because I do 98% of the cooking. I certainly try not to impose my beliefs on her and she totally respects my choices as well. The people where I work pretty much think I’m a heretic for not eating meat. Most of my clientele and co-workers are the southern, redneck or cowboy types, who equate a decision to abstain from meat to be odd tree-hugging, hippie behavior, or part some impending PETA terrorism. I’m no fan of PETA because I disagree with their tactics. I do feel like human beings evolved cognitively and physiologically in such a way that they can choose their preferred diet; whether it be plant based, animal based, or both. I prefer strictly plant based… just because I do. I don’t think the focus should be on the moral or ethical implications of eating meat or not eating meat, but instead, on the waste and over consumption associated with the factory farming that goes into of a majority of plant and animal products sold in mega stores.
I was mainly a hired gun with a few local bands. I just filled the shoes of former band members to play music that was already written. Bass is my favorite instrument but I also play guitar quite a bit. I played bass in a local band called “Fracas” for a little over a year but we didn’t really get anywhere and eventually parted ways. It seemed like any money we did make went to pay for gas to perpetuate our endless and un-lucrative gigging at local venues. I also played bass and some acoustic guitar for a garage cover band (without a name), a band called “817”, and I played drums for a band called “Vent” that kind of fizzled. Mainly these were bands from different parts of the rock spectrum. Personally, I prefer to play blues, jazz, funk, and fusion kinds of stuff but I never ran into a band that really shared my musical tastes. I’m not the writer type when it comes to music. I prefer executing music already written, more like a studio musician. I earned a master certificate from Berklee College of Music online in Music Theory, Harmony, and Ear Training and played in a jazz band in community college but abandoned music academia to pursue business. The only actual degree I have is an A.A. in Foundations of Business. In terms of commercial music, I think I would love to make money putting together jingles and/or background video game music.

@ karlsie
Thanks for the compliment! Since most of my verbal communications seem to come out as muddled or as grunts and profanity, I feel like I can get my thoughts across best with a keyboard. I don’t really fancy myself a writer but I love to write. I do like to discuss and debate when I feel like I can add to the conversation. Other times I just babble endlessly. I just know that, like when I play music or go to the gym, trying to write is therapeutic and helps keep the body count down! *smiles* In the long run, I would like to at least write one book before I croak. Probably a cook book or a how-to book or something like that.

@ sh I am glad to be here and hope I can help spread the happy infection that is Subversify.com! @ Mitch Yeah, I’ve known you for a while… you are bat shit crazy! I’m not sure how his wife puts up with him. Hanging out with Mitch is kind of like that clip from Chapelle’s Show where he went out with Wayne Brady… Mitch is just like Wayne Brady! (Here’s the clip, you may have to cut-and-paste if the link doesn’t hypertext) www.youtube.com/watch?v=bONBlJNt0I0

Well, Sparky, the great thing about writing is you can always edit your text before pressing the button. Once the words go blurting out of your mouth, it's kind of hard to reshape them.
So Mitch is that crazy.... mama mia. I used to wonder how a germophobic would do in our little rough and tumble town. Now i'm wondering how he would do without alleys, street gangs and prostitutes. "I think i see a bear!" Blam! Blam! "Oh fuck, it was just a snowshoe rabbit scratching its ear." Or maybe he would hide out in a cabin on the frozen Chena River and take pot shots at the snow machines and dog teams that whiz by.

My pack leader says I'm too fat and has been putting more rice in my diet. I want a hamburger.

Awwww... that's too bad. I'm sure the pack leader has your best interests at heart. You'll have a hamburger again before you know it!
