In the cities of ancient Sumer circa 4000BC there lived mysterious figures, known as gods, who resided in the temples. It seems the records from Sumer are the earliest known historical instance of the gods. Each city had a temple dedicated to its patron god, where the earliest gods were said to have lived. These gods were reportedly manlike in appearance, yet there was something off about them, some inhuman quality in their eyes it seems. In any case, they were powerful enough that not even the strongest warriors dared oppose or challenge their authority in any way.
It seems at some point the gods started to chose mighty warriors to be the kings of their respective cities. They also created priesthoods that were no less powerful than kings. It seems after they set up a complete and functional society, the gods vanished from sight. And yet, for millenia to come kings and conquerers would claim to have acted on behalf of the gods, whom they claimed to see and receive directions from. This exact same pattern was also followed in Mesoamerica, the cradle of American civilization.
This pattern of man-gods who constructed cities and societies is supposed to have emerged after a great flood which is said to have washed away all traces of man's earlier civilization. Regarding what happened before this cataclysmic event there is only speculation. And yet regarding the deluge itself, there is no doubt that our recorded history begins abruptly only a few thousand years ago. There seems to be not a lot in the form of a history of what people were doing from 500,000 years ago up to 6000 years ago. That a mass human-extinction event may have occurred right before our recorded history begins is really quite probable IMO.
There is speculation, in the form of poetic imagery and myths, in the gnostic texts of the Nag Hammadi library that before the deluge, the gods were like disincarnate entities, minds without bodies that invaded the human ape like a virus. It seems mankind, who was as yet not possessed of self-awareness in those days, lived side by side with his new non-biological neighbors for a while until eventually they were completely subdued and taken over. I believe ancient man carved images of his new friends in stone, and painted their pictures in caves. I believe the gods knew how to think for perhaps millions of years before they taught it to us. And I don't think they taught us how to think well at all.
According to Amazonian shamanic traditions, black dragon-like creatures descended on the earth like meteors in the darkest most forgotten recesses of prehistory before the advent of thought. The dragons offered our ancestors a deal, a symbiotic relationship. They agreed to give us their mind and the power of speech and thought that went with it, in return for being provided a place to live. Some have asserted that the dragons were fleeing for their lives and chose the earth-man as a place to hide. Others claim that they came here with the sole intention of enslaving us.
In any case, it is my belief that today the gods live inside of us in the form of our idea of self. I think our idea of self is our undisputed master and god. It commands and we obey, strangely divided as we are against ourselves. The gods but whisper in our ears and we bow our heads and scrape, believing it is our own self talking.
One version of the popular god myths states that we were once the obedient little slaves of the gods, until satan (the gods' adversary) in an effort to undermine the other gods power and influence, gave us a plant to eat which opened our eyes. The ancient people of Mexico believed that over time the cults of the magical plants of knowledge evolved and transformed into mystical brotherhoods, the most powerful of which were purported to have existed in Mexico millenia before the Spanish conquest. It is said that these brotherhoods eventually came to defy the gods, and were presumably destroyed by a flood.
The other side of the coin, however, states that we were free beings once, roaming the earth without a care in the world. But then the gods came. They descended from the heavens and made a pact with our ancestors: our energy for their knowledge. So they gave us their mind, their language and their thoughts. Before our ancestors could realize what was happening, they were trapped inside the mind. And so today we are completely isolated from our true being, living the totality of our lives inside our minds, looking out at the world through barred window.
I think the mind is like our operating system, the Windows to our organic-hardware. And I believe we are all running the same version today. I think our ancestors were given bogus instruction manuals in the form of the old and new testaments and countless other nonsensical holy books all over the world. And today we have no idea what the human psyche is capable of. We have no idea what's "out there" beyond our mind.
One myth posits that without the mind, we would be mere animals, running on auto-pilot. The other that we used to be godlike in our own right, but that we have been reduced to mere beasts because of the mind. (The idea we have of the human ape-beast is a property of the mind)
The ideas that the two myths are trying to portray about our past are irreconcilable, which leads me to believe that god and satan might just be on the same team secretly.
There is no doubt in my mind that the gods of ancient polytheistic peoples all over the world were one and the same as those referred to as the fallen angels in the book of genesis and the book of enoch. There is no doubt that Jehova himself was also one of these same gods. For me there is also very little doubt regarding the origin of the ancient hero myths like Jesus. All the kings and heroes in ancient times were said to be born as a result of the gods' seduction of mortals. I think this very plainly implies that Jesus, and all the countless god-kings that have ruled mankind over the ages, were simply people with minds. As opposed to the generally mindless (more accurately "lacking in sophisticated mental functions") state of the general population in those days.
I am convinced that in the distant past "supernatural" incorporeal entities really and concretely did walk upon the earth among men and beasts, and they continue to do so today. The peyoteros of the american southwest and the ayahuasqueros of the amazon are still in direct contact with these "spirits." I think the reason psychedelic plants are mocked and outlawed today is exactly because those spirits who are the gods of mankind, don't want too many people seeing them. I believe the gods have been telling us what is legal and illegal, right and wrong, good and bad since always.
