With World AIDS day approaching on Dec 1st and with more international writers joining us daily I thought I would put the idea out there into your minds to be thinking of writing something along this subject. Got ideas for change? New Information? A different Perspective? A personal experience? Fiction? I would love us to cover this issue. Grainne Out.

AIDS is such a depressing subject; as are all those diseases marked out on the calendar and assigned a day for remembrance. MS, diabetes, cancer. Sometimes, i think those dates are put up there to pop our balloons in case we become too optimistic. Active immune deficiency; a virus that doesn't kill you of itself, but instead breaks down your natural immune system and lets inherent diseases kill you. The intelligent virus; going straight for the main artillery.
We have unleashed something peculiar against ourselves; not just with the introduction of AIDS, but through an overall process of lowered immune systems with increased use of antibiotics, chemical induction and poor diet. We have become medically dependent, although our medication costs us dearly. We have the second generation, children of AIDS victims reaching their maturity, many with the virus disguised and hiding in the background for years before making its appearance. We don't truly know how much these alterations in human body chemistry will ultimately affect the future any more than we were able to predict the consequences of direct exposure to uranium. But it might be interesting to consider it and the entire episodic occurrence of break down in the auto-immune system.

Karla your second paragraph addresses some of my ideas on the topic. I would also like to hear from the world at large. With Bill joining us from India I am very interested to see how the issue is being addressed there also we are getting more hits from the African continent which has a long and varied history of dealing with AIDS. There Is also new research which is encouraging that we can look into. Revolution and subversion is not all happy happy joy joy as you know and I am thinking it a worthwhile topic to put out there. I am on the road homeward bound today, I'll ruminate on it myself and see if I come up with something.
