Ehm, hello you writing sort of people - first of all don't offer me an alcoholic beverage as I gave them up three months ago; no easy feat for a Brit living in France. But that's the sort of person I am. (Mint and grenadine topped up with tonic water will do fine for the moment.)
I'm here because Karla asked me if I'd like to submit writing to Subversify and I said, Yes thank you very much but are you sure, I'm still learning how to use the semi-colon? And she said something intellectual about non-intellectual writing and I said, Flipping Heck and Crikey Bobs! As one does in such circumstances.
So I'll be submitting my first piece - or a lump of small pieces - entitled God, Son and Ghost. Now this writing did manage to offend a nice Christian lady on the Multiply group Intelligent Debate which surprised me for two reasons: I didn't write it in order to be offensive: the characters are bums who happen to have Biblical nicknames; they are comical, cartoonish road-movie types living in an absurd world; and the lady who was offended (but I think I managed to smooth that over) is Dutch.
Dutch! Not even a loony fundie.
(Does offending a nice, Christian Dutch lady qualify me as a possible occasional writer for Subversify?)
One of the fun aspects of having your writing published is seeing how it is (mis)interpreted as I am sure you all know. Perhaps it isn't always fun...
More about Delbor:
He's an English language facilitator working with professional French people who need to communicate with the rest of the world in order to make a living. If only they were all as talented at communication as Marcel Marceau... (He teaches English to French adults.)
He has an American wife.
He doesn't usually speak about himself in the third person; this is an exercise in style.
He is but a lost soul wandering through the corridors of literary excellence in need of love and the occasional hug. But, being a Brit, he much prefers having the piss taken out of him. But not too much. And not too soon.
Time for a nice cup of tea.
